Chamber of Commerce - Bismarck/Mandan - 09-05-06 North Dakota Highlighted in the Wall Street Journal

Bismarck was highlighted last Thursday in the Wall Street Journal in a story by Joel Kotkin, an Irvine Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation. Highlighted by the tremendous job growth and opportunity occurring in our community and region. According to Kotkin, "At a time when the much-celebrated coasts creak from rising interest rates, faltering income levels and soaring energy prices, this windswept, energy-rich city of 57,000 on the western edge of the Dakota plains is experiencing the best of times. Cities like this one out in the far-off hinterland -- Iowa City, Sioux Falls, Fargo, Grand Forks, Rapid City -- now are enjoying job growth rates that, if they don't rival Las Vegas, certainly put to shame those of most major metropolitan areas. Unemployment is negligible and wages are rising across virtually all job categories."

Visit our Sister Site - Center for Family Medicine (Minot) - The Family Practice Residency in Minot began in 1975 as the first residency program in the state administered by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program is affiliated with Trinity Medical Center which is a fully JCAHO accredited regional hospital providing a wide range of services including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and an ACS certified Level II Trauma Center.
The Minot residency also accepts five residents per year. They are a well respected provider in the community. Minot is a clean, safe, friendly community of 35,000. They train residents to practice in whatever setting they choose with particular emphasis on rural practice where other specialties may not be readily available.
The residency clinic moved into a new state of the art clinic in April of 2005 where the physicians will continue to provide the full range of family medicine services to a large and varied clinic population. Maternity care, endoscopy, cardiac treadmill testing, colposcopy, vasectomy, and a full range of office-based procedures are offered. Onsite lab and x-ray contribute to clinic efficiency and resident education.
The residency is fully wired and equipped with the latest in electronic equipment. The faculty consists of six family physicians, a full-time psychologist and an OB/GYN.
The residency provides an exciting, dynamic atmosphere for medical learners motivated to practice as competent, comprehensive family physicians.
