The Family Practice Residency Program in Bismarck began in 1976 as the second residency program in the State administered by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The UND Center for Family Medicine is currently located at 515 East Broadway Avenue, Bismarck, ND on the first level of the Parkade Building (north entrance by White Drug).
Since its inception, the Bismarck Family Practice Residency program has graduated a total of 130 physicians. 84 out of 130 of these total graduates have stayed locally within the State of North Dakota (a retention ratio of 64.61%). 39 of these physicians were recruited to Bismarck/Mandan facilities directly following graduation and have stayed here, with the exception of five physicians that initially started practice here and then later moved out-of-state. An additional 45 physicians are working within the State of North Dakota, seven of which are working for Satellite Clinics that are based in another neighboring state, but owned an operated by either MeritCare or Altru Health System in eastern North Dakota.
New family physicians will play a critical and influential role in facing the challenge of providing high quality health care services within a changing delivery system. It is our commitment at the University of North Dakota Center for Family Medicine, Bismarck, to provide our residents an environment in which to learn, to grow, and to meet that challenge.

The Bismarck UND Center for Family Medicine has a solid history of attracting top notch medical school graduates who complete their residency education as well-trained, caring family doctors. We are proud of the accomplishments of our residents. They work hard, make difficult decisions and complete our program with the confidence and competence to practice successfully.
