5 Tips for More Energized Winter Mornings

Answer from Brynn Luger, Licensed Professional Counselor & National Certified Counselor.

Q: What can I do to feel more energized in the winter?

A: It’s normal to have days when you don’t feel yourself, or to feel sad or down, especially with a change in the weather and sunlight. To shake off those “winter blues” try shaking up your morning routine with the following tips:

1. Begin your day a little earlier. Starting your morning routine 30 to 60 minutes earlier gives you a chance to stretch, breathe, and state your intentions for the day.

2. Avoid screens. Put aside the technology and allows you time to focus on yourself.

3. Smile. Research has shown that smiling releases endorphins in your body, which aid in improving your mood.

4. Don’t ignore breakfast. Fueling your body in the morning improves concentration and lowers hunger throughout the day.

5 Make your bed. Even this simple act provides you with a sense of accomplishment, and that will increase your motivation for the remainder of the day.
